Work From Home Ideas

Ways to stay motivated while working from home

It's been an interesting year, to say the least. 2020 has taken a lot of unexpected turns, between dealing with a global pandemic and adjusting to working remotely from home. For many, staying motivated has been quite the struggle. It's not an easy task turning your home into an office. Especially when you have a house full of family members, such as children or grandparents, and a collection of animals and disturbances right at the touch of your fingertips. Let's look at some tips to stay motivated while you work remotely from home.

This is the starting point for many of you there that are now working from home. If you don't create a workspace, you may find it difficult to stay on task, or even feel like you are clocked in for work. You must create a workspace that gives you the feeling that you never left the office, to begin with. It's tempting to work in bed, or on the couch, but comfortable spaces in the home that are meant for relaxing or sleeping are not ideal locations for productivity. So, empty that storage room, or revamp your garage or guest room into an office, and you will more be motivated instantly!

Another great way to stay motivated while working at home is to maintain wearing business attire. We know it's easy to throw on those sweat pants, or even stay in the same PJ's you wore the night before... But don't! The whole point of getting up, setting a morning routine, and putting on business clothes is to practice that shift in your day from relaxation to productivity. Some days you should reward yourself and put on that comfy and cozy outfit, but dressing for work will help you stay motivated to get work done.

Since working from home means more distractions and interruptions, it's important to set boundaries with family members so that they understand your need for privacy. When you have to take a business call or conduct a zoom meeting, you don't want your children running through the back of the frame or yelling over each other. Make sure you try your best to isolate yourself while working.

Taking breaks is essential for maintaining energy, focus, and productivity. There is a "10-minute" rule you can follow, where after 10 minutes of work, you allow yourself a 5-minute break. You shouldn't practice this rule every 10 minutes, but when you feel the need for a break coming on, work 10 more minutes and take the break you so desperately need. You can also reward yourself after completing assignments or meetings by eating a piece of candy, drinking some coffee, or whatever your heart desires since you're working from home and all.

Most importantly, you must equip your workspace with the best-of-the-best office supplies. Over at Lumicharge, we offer a variety of technological devices that will light up your home or office!
