Reason for Shipping Delays Globally:
Because of three global traffic or overcrowding, your online orders are late and more expensive:
- Three global traffic jams are intensifying the economy's supply chain crisis.
- European manufacturers are overburdened, Asian companies are struggling, and American ports are overburdened.
- As the holidays approach, Americans will continue to spend more and wait longer for their goods.
Global supply networks are still reeling from the impact of city lockdowns implemented by governments in 2020 to combat COVID-19. Lockdowns in China initially shut down manufacturing, halting most of the global shipping supply chain. Then, in the United States, lockdowns sparked a rise in demand as consumers ordered equipment and gadgets to help them work from home. The shipping industry's capacity to correct problems in their shipment timetables has been hampered by a shortage of truck drivers needed for dumping products at docks in the United States.
The shipping crisis is getting worse. Here's what that means for holiday shopping;
The global network of ports, container ships, and trucking companies that transport commodities are complicated, and shipping costs are increasing. For retailers and holiday customers, this is bad news. More than 18 months into the pandemic, the disruption to global supply systems is worsening, causing consumer product shortages and increasing the cost of shipping items where they're needed.
The most recent roadblock is in China, where a terminal at the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, south of Shanghai, has been closed since August 11 due to a positive Covid-19 test by a dock worker. It has reopened, but the Supply chain issue remains severe. Maersk (AMKBY), Hapag-Lloyd (HPGLY), and CMA CGM, among other major international shipping lines, have changed timetables to avoid the port and are warning customers of delays.
The worldwide shipping crunch is expected to continue, according to the shipping industry. This raises the cost of carrying freight dramatically, thereby adding to the upward pressure on consumer prices. In a recent statement, Hapag-Lloyd CEO Rolf Habben Jansen said, "We currently expect the market situation to soften until in the first quarter of 2022 at the earliest.
"If you didn't pledge to start your holiday shopping early, it wouldn't be the holiday season. 2021 isn't messing around: the current COVID-19 delivery delays have all but mandated that you start working on your holiday shopping list as soon as possible.
